Astoria School District - Safe School Information

Posted Date: 9/05/24 (2:25 PM)

As we begin a new school year, I want to share information with parents and staff about the steps the Astoria School District takes each year to ensure our schools are safe.

The District uses Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to train students and staff on safety protocols used in an emergency.  The district updated our school safety plan in April 2024 with no significant changes to the protocols other than fine-tuned messaging regarding lockdowns and advice on how to deal with hoaxes.

Schools will spend the necessary time reviewing the SRP process with staff, and when students begin attending school this month, staff will spend time reviewing the Standard Response Protocol process with students. The information that will be reviewed with students will be age-appropriate, based on the grade level of students. Each of the schools in our District will continue monthly emergency drill training.

In addition to the Standard Response Protocol process, the District has created a Reunification Plan in case of an emergency where parents need to pick their children up off the school site.

We aim to ensure that every student is safe while at school and that district staff will take the necessary steps to plan in case of an emergency.

Please review the Standard Response Protocols and Reunification information on our website at https://www.astoria.k12.or.us/23131_2.
