State Testing Opt-Out Forms

Posted Date: 12/03/24 (1:41 PM)

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 take the Smarter Balanced tests in the spring. Most students participate in state testing, but parents have the right to opt their children out if they choose.

To best support school district planning, you are encouraged to submit this form to your child’s school by January 2, 2025.

The school shall provide any student who is exempted from a state test with supervised study time while other students are testing.

State law permits parents and adult students to annually opt out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting the form provided on our website at: https://www.astoria.k12.or.us/2723_2

Note: The science test is given in grades 5, 8, and 11 and parents may request that their student be exempt from state testing based on disability or religion.  This requires a separate written letter that includes the reason and a proposed alternative learning activity for the student.  The exemption is subject to district review and approval.
